starting the day with a start

The alarm didn’t go off and so I slept an hour past by usual rising time. Luckily I had some frozen lunches and threw that into my bag, and had showered the night before due to having to turn water on and off outside. Augie missed out on his usual morning play with me, and I couldn’t linger over my cup of tea, but I made it to school only about 15 minutes later than usual. The benefit of an extra hour of sleep was totally lost in the rush though.

I forgot to put my belt on and as I had long pants on, I spent the day hoisting them back up which was rather annoying, especially as it was a day I was on my feet a lot and not just sitting at my desk!

Tomorrow (today when this is published) I have an author coming to speak to the students about his books. This author was, some years ago, a teacher at our school and some of the long term staff worked with him. One current teacher was actually taught by him! Should be an interesting day. After school he is taking my creative writing students for a workshop, which is such a wonderful opportunity for them especially as a couple are very serious about being writers. I told them they must dedicate their success, and first books, to me!

Must remember to set the alarm correctly; and wear a belt!

  1. Were your pants the annoying kind that end at the hips rather than at the waist? I have a pair of jeans cut like that, and I feel like they’re falling down all the time. I should have returned them when I first realized the problem, but I tried to convince myself that it was good to “update” my wardrobe. Bah. I hated hiphuggers back when they came out in the early 70s, and I hate them even more now.

Your students are so lucky to be able to have a workshop with a professional writer! A local writer is offering a workshop for aspiring adult writers, but he’s charging $400 a head. Granted, it’s being held at a very lovely ranch near the shore, but for $400 I think I’d rather just pound haphazardly upon the keyboard as I usually do.

    • His fee was $800 and for that he spoke to an ant ire year level which is 190 students, but he had to rotate the talk twice as we had to split the groups, and he did a superb job each session. Then he hung around, lunched with the teachers and answered all their questions and then gave the students a 90 minute plus workshop. He was amazing and quality all the way.

  2. I’m impressed, I have to admit. Seldom do I encounter a blog that’s equally educative and amusing, and let me tell you, you
have hit the nail on the head. The problem is an issue that too few people are
speaking intelligently about. I’m very happy that I stumbled across this in my search for something concerning this.
