Nice then

nice

Do you ever have one of those days when someone asks you, “How was your day?” and you reply “Nice, it was a nice day.” and you really can’t recall why it was nice, or how it was nice, but it was nice, and then it dawns on you that it was actually the absence of any form of irritation that made it nice?

Well, yesterday was like that.

  1. If only I had one of those days! Most times there’s at least one thing that managed to irritate me, though I have been working on being more grateful for the small things that give me pleasure: a place I can call home, a refrigerator stocked with food, a bottle of wine in the pantry. I have noticed that bad days make for more interesting writing than nice days. Which perhaps explains why I haven’t updated my blog in a while. Nice is, well, nice. 🙂

  2. Yes, nice is often the absence of anything bad rather than the presence of anything great 🙂 At this point in my life, I appreciate peace and quiet.

  3. I remember reading in a parenting book a long time ago that instead of asking “how was your day?” to ask questions like “What made you laugh today?” Or “what made you smile?” Or “who inspired you and why?” Or “What frustrated you today?” Questions like these are great conversation starters.
